What is WISMO? Meaning and how to answer "where is my order?"
WISMO stands for "where is my order?" It describes a customer question about the shipping status, location or expected delivery of an order. Answer it by identifying the correct order, checking the latest recorded facts and explaining what is known, what is unknown and the next step.

A WISMO message might ask whether an order has shipped, why tracking has stopped or why a parcel marked delivered cannot be found. These questions need different answers. This guide explains the checks and gives eight illustrative replies you can adapt.
What counts as a WISMO ticket?
- "Where is my order?" without an order number
- "Has this shipped yet?"
- "Tracking hasn't moved in three days"
- "It says delivered but I don't have it"
- "Can you tell me when it will arrive?"
- "Is my parcel stuck in customs?"
Do not infer the shipment state from the customer's question. For example, a request for a tracking link does not establish that the order has shipped.
Why customers ask where their order is
Possible causes include unclear delivery windows, a missing confirmation, an unavailable carrier update, an actual delay or a disputed delivery scan. Check which applies to the order. There is no single percentage of support volume that describes every store; measure your own mix.
How to calculate your WISMO rate
Choose a period and count order-status support conversations and all support conversations using the same rules:
WISMO rate = (order-status conversations ÷ all support conversations) × 100
For example, 300 order-status conversations out of 1,000 total conversations gives a 30% WISMO rate. This is an illustrative calculation, not a benchmark.
- Count consistently. Decide whether a reopened conversation counts once or again; use the same rule each period. Avoid comparing individual messages with whole tickets.
- Separate the reasons. Track not-yet-shipped, tracking delays and delivered-but-not-received cases so a change in the total does not hide the cause.
- Compare similar periods. Record promotions, shipping incidents and order volume alongside the rate. A monthly view can help distinguish a recurring issue from a brief disruption.
What to check before replying
- Identify the correct order. Use an order number or customer email through your established support process. Resolve multiple matches before sharing order details.
- Read fulfilment and delivery separately. A store marking an order fulfilled does not prove that the carrier has collected it. Check each shipment when an order is partly fulfilled.
- Check the latest carrier event and its timestamp. Share an estimate only when one is recorded, and identify it as an estimate. A quiet tracking page does not prove a parcel is lost.
- Check the next action. Follow your store policy and the carrier's process. Do not promise a refund, replacement, investigation or date until that action is supported and authorised.
The Shopify fulfilment and delivery status guide explains the difference. For a stalled update, use the tracking-not-updating checklist.
Eight WISMO reply examples
These are synthetic examples, not customer messages or delivery guarantees. Replace bracketed fields with verified facts. Use an example only when its stated conditions match the order; remove any unavailable field and state the uncertainty. Review every reply before sending.
1. Order not yet fulfilled
Use when: the order is recorded as unfulfilled and no dispatch or delivery date is confirmed.
Order [order number] is recorded as unfulfilled. I do not yet have a confirmed dispatch or delivery date to share. I can confirm the next step once the preparation details have been checked.
2. Fulfilment recorded, carrier handover unconfirmed
Use when: fulfilment is recorded but there is no carrier event confirming collection.
Fulfilment has been recorded for order [order number], but the available tracking does not yet confirm carrier collection. I cannot confirm that the parcel is moving or give a delivery date from that information alone.
3. In transit without a delivery estimate
Use when: the latest carrier event says in transit and no delivery estimate is available.
The latest carrier update for order [order number] shows it in transit as of [timestamp]. You can follow it at [verified tracking link]. The carrier has not provided a delivery estimate.
4. Tracking has not updated
Use when: there is no newer event after a verified tracking update. Do not call the parcel lost.
The last tracking update for order [order number] is [verified status] from [timestamp]. I do not have a newer scan, a confirmed cause for the gap or a revised delivery date to share.
5. Out for delivery
Use when: the carrier explicitly records out for delivery. Do not guarantee arrival today.
The carrier marked order [order number] out for delivery at [timestamp]. A delivery time is not confirmed in the available update. Please check [verified tracking link] for the carrier's latest information.
6. Carrier reports delivery
Use when: delivery is recorded and the customer has not yet reported it missing.
The carrier marked order [order number] delivered at [timestamp]. If you cannot locate the parcel, please let us know so we can review the delivery details and the next step.
7. Delivered but not received
Use when: the customer disputes a delivery scan. Do not treat the scan as proof that they received the parcel.
I'm sorry you have not received order [order number]. The carrier records a delivery, but that does not resolve the missing-parcel report. Please check any safe place named in the carrier's delivery details. If it is still missing, reply so we can review the next step under our delivery policy.
Use the fuller delivered-but-not-received workflow and templates for investigation checks and conditional replies.
8. A delivery exception
Use when: a specific exception is recorded. Do not assume a customs hold, address problem or redelivery unless the evidence states it.
The carrier recorded [exact exception] for order [order number] at [timestamp]. I do not have a confirmed new delivery date. The next step needs to be checked against the carrier's instructions for this exception.

Answer WISMO questions with CaseKit
CaseKit works directly in Shopify Admin. Paste the customer message, find the order by number or email, and choose to generate a draft. Check the selected order, recorded facts and store policy before copying the reply to your existing inbox.
If you answer support in Gmail, the optional Chrome extension shows Shopify order context beside the open conversation. Gmail and the extension are not required for the Admin workflow. CaseKit's Shopify access is read-only, and you review and send the reply yourself. See the WISMO support workflow.
Reduce avoidable WISMO questions
- Publish delivery windows that reflect your actual preparation and shipping arrangements.
- Include a working order-status or tracking link in customer notifications.
- Explain known delays using confirmed facts and identify estimates as estimates.
- Review recurring contact reasons and update the relevant notification or support process.
These steps can reduce avoidable uncertainty, but they cannot guarantee that order-status questions disappear. Keep a clear support route for customers whose order needs individual attention.
